Our Academics

Religion

KNOWLEDGE IS AT THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM!

The primary focus of GCA religion curriculum is to provide a program where God is worshiped and glorified as central and supreme in life's total experience. Spiritual growth, moral concepts, and ethical values form the basis for the program. Sacred Scripture, a religion text and contemporary children's literature are used for instruction.

All students participate in a religion class led by the teacher four days a week.  Wednesday is set aside for chapel celebrations.

TRUE EDUCATION IS BUILT ON GOD.

Literacy

Basic concepts of elementary English are taught and applied. Oral communication skills and creative writing are incorporated into the English program.  Reading is taught on all levels in order to meet the needs and achievement abilities of the students. A basic text is used from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Workbooks, reading kits, listening materials and literature are used to supplement skill development.

Science

The study of science encourages a clear understanding of the scientific process and how to go about finding an answer to a problem. Scientific skills of observation, recording and evaluation, together with basic language skills, form the foundation of the child's exploration of the natural and physical world.

Computer Science

Computer education in the primary grades utilizes technology as a tool in assisting each child to practice skills and enhance concepts learned in the classroom. All classrooms are networked with access to the internet. Students learn to use the computer as a tool to assist them in their studies, especially in researching topics, completing reports and writing assignments. Computer education also focuses on the computer as a tool, assisting each child to practice skills and concepts taught in the classroom.

Social Studies/History

Social studies and history students explore the world beyond themselves by utilizing their reading and writing skills. Projects, class activities and field trips are incorporated. Facts and ideas are stressed. Correct use of maps, globes and reference books is taught.

Mathematics

The teaching in mathematics emphasizes the state and national standards. Manipulatives and hands-on activities are used to help teach and reinforce concepts. Students are provided with a variety of opportunities to apply these concepts. Computation and problem-solving exercises differ considerably from grade to grade depending on the ability of the students to progress from one level to the next.

Physical Education

Daily physical education classes are held at every grade level, stressing development of physical use and control of muscles and learning individual sports, lifelong athletic skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team. Physical education classes include competitive and non-competitive games and sports that help children increase their physical stamina and coordination. Sportsmanship, goal setting, active participation, and skill building are emphasized.  Students also participate in Enrichment Activities such track, soccer and life skills training.
